Chittaway Bay, Tuggerah Lake on the Central Coast. We walked along the eastern side from The Entrance south through Long Jetty and Killarney Vale and return. The walk is a beautiful area well developed with good facilities for walkers, cyclists and picnickers. There are three jetties (Long, Watkins and Parry’s) and Long Jetty was once used as a ferry bringing passengers over from Wyong (going back a 100 years or so). Shortly after we set out, we found a dirt trail away from the made footpath which took us along the lakes edge up to Long Jetty which was nice as it was quiet and not well used. We walked out along Long Jetty which is 1152 feet long. Further along the path, there is also a boardwalk to view migratory birds, although most had left by April when we were there. After lunch, two of us walked out along Parry’s Jetty which is shorter and shallower than the other two. The water was also clearer compared to Long Jetty. The lake is well looked after with a number of filtration systems installed to keep rubbish out. There are many small creeks running into Lake Tuggerah and abundant birdlife.
Stats: 13.2 kms, 4 hrs walking over 5 hours, 9 m altitude gain, Moderate effort rating of 5/10, max temp 22c and 78% humidity. Six walkers and a very pleasant day.
